Your Health Insurance Options
ACA Marketplace Plans
Comprehensive coverage that meets federal requirements
Affordable Care Act plans cover essential health benefits, including preventive care, prescriptions, hospitalization, and maternity care. Depending on your income, you may qualify for premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions.
- Guaranteed issue (can't be denied for health conditions)
- Essential health benefits included
- Premium subsidies available based on income
- Open enrollment November 1 - January 15
Short-Term Health Insurance
Temporary coverage for gaps in insurance
Short-term plans can cover you for a few months while you're between jobs or waiting for other coverage to start. They're more affordable but don't cover pre-existing conditions.
- Coverage for 1-12 months
- Lower premiums than ACA plans
- Does not cover pre-existing conditions
- Good for healthy individuals in transition
Health Sharing Plans
An alternative approach to coverage
Health sharing ministries are member-based organizations where members share each other's medical costs. They're not traditional insurance but can be an affordable option.
- Lower monthly costs
- Not insurance, member-to-member sharing
- May have faith-based requirements
- Pre-existing condition limitations vary
Common Questions
When can I enroll in an ACA plan?
Open enrollment runs November 1 - January 15 each year. Outside of that window, you may qualify for Special Enrollment if you've had a qualifying life event (job loss, marriage, moving, etc.).
Do I qualify for subsidies?
It depends on your household income. Most people earning between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level qualify for some assistance. We can help you figure out what you might be eligible for.
What's the difference between ACA plans and short-term plans?
ACA plans cover pre-existing conditions and include all essential health benefits. Short-term plans are cheaper but don't cover pre-existing conditions and have more exclusions. Short-term is best for healthy people who need temporary coverage.
I'm self-employed. Is there a better option than the Marketplace?
For most self-employed individuals, the ACA Marketplace is the best option, especially if you qualify for subsidies. We can review your specific situation and explore all possibilities.
Can I keep my doctor?
It depends on the plan. We'll help you find plans that include your preferred doctors and hospitals in-network.
